Facebook tests feature to recycle old posts
December 1, 2013
Facebook is testing a new feature that lets users view older content.
The system is reportedly being implemented to encourage viewers to revisit older, more memorable posts.
Buzzfeed reports that this feature has driven a huge increase in traffic for old stories, citing a year-old-story suddenly getting 1.2M views.
The potential consequences to this system are mind-boggling. If Holiday taught us nothing else, it’s that bloggers will do anything for views and this system presents another opportunity to manipulate readers and subsequently bloggers themselves.
For example, online content from now on may be deliberately left open-ended or less-time specific to account for future views.
